WHAT SKILLS DO OUR STUDENTS NEED IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?

ACADEMY PATHWAYS

Feel free to look over our Pathways and comment on course sequence/selection.

WHAT IS A CAREER ACADEMY?

  • The academy structure is often seen as a specific type of small learning community.
  • Specifically, each academy is usually built around career themes and then subgroups are organized around these particular themes.
  • Schools attempt to focus on career areas that will offer academic and occupation-related courses to enhance real-world relevance and encourage high academic standards.
  • Students in the academies are encouraged to seek work-based learning experiences with local area businesses.
  • Within each separate academy structure, students complete core courses as a group but often elective and advanced courses are offered to mixed academies.
  • Often academies are autonomous, in that each has its own assistant principal who leads the academy and serves as disciplinarian to the students and its own counselor who manages master scheduling needs.
